藝術家袁慧莉的「類山水」系列，是她膠彩山水畫中，重彩金碧的繁筆系列。她的山石皴法，不受傳統皴法的侷限，自由抒發內在情緒。作品〈類山水系列no.52〉，採多樣且繁複的皴法，形構出奇異、多變、混雜並置的山石皴形結構。希望藉此隱喻臺灣這座海洋島嶼，長久以來經過不同國家文化的治理殖民，所發展出的多元混雜狀態，同時，華麗的山水景致，不再只是述說外在自然景象，而是透過袁慧莉自身的陰性語法出發，投射出帶有後殖民色彩的島嶼世界。
YUAN Hui-Li’s Ambiguous World series is a series of eastern gouache paintings. Her mountain wrinkled texture is free from the limitations of traditional wrinkled texture and can freely express inner feelings. The work, Ambiguous World No.52, adopts a variety of complicated wrinkled texture to construct a unique, changing, and miscellaneous mountainous wrinkled structure or perhaps metaphorize that Taiwan, an oceanic island, has been colonized by different countries of different cultures and has developed into a state of diversity. At the same time, the gorgeous landscapes are no longer just about a natural phenomenon, but an island world with post-colonial enrichment.
