A map of the Tamsui River basin has long hung on the wall of the artist’s living room, charting tributaries, riverbanks, and settlements into a seemingly complete and rational network. More than a geographic record, it serves as a reminder of place, paths taken, and landscapes that shape family life and urban memory.
In Tamkang, the artist preserves the map’s structure through carving, layering, and cutting, while deliberately exposing its fractures—echoing the physical and emotional ruptures formed through history, urban change, and personal memory.
The work intertwines the authority of the map with the lived fluidity of the river, becoming a meditation on how “home,” “place,” and “landscape” continue to connect people and memory amid constant change.
