藝術家何肇衢，是戰後成名的第一代畫家，也是全省美展與臺陽美展獲獎不斷的常勝軍。因畫室位於淡水河岸，何肇衢在這裡畫山、畫海、畫樹、畫水，一畫三十年。早期的創作以暗藍色調的具象畫為主，爾後受立體派畢卡索，以及東南亞熱烈的陽光、鮮艷色彩的影響，由原先如實描繪景物的寫實畫法，轉向色彩明快、強調以點線面和幾何形狀構成的半抽象創作。作品〈淡水風光〉以鳥瞰遠眺的方式描繪淡水景色，整體佈局開闊、用色清朗、氣度恢弘。
The artist, HO Chao-Chu was one of the first artists to gain renown in the postwar period, having taken the main prize at the Taiwan Exhibition and Taiyang Exhibition many times. Because his studio was located at the Danshui riverside, for thirty years Ho painted the mountains, the ocean, the trees, and the water there. His early creations were realistic and painted in dark hues, but later, influenced by Picasso’s cubism and the bright colors and warm sunlight of South East Asia, he abandoned his realistic style of painting and began painting in bright colors, with an emphasis on lines and geometric shapes to create half-abstractions. His piece, “Danshui Vista” is a far-away bird’s-eye view of the Danshui River. The arrangement is broad, the colors bright, and the atmosphere expansive.
